One cup at a time

What a week we’ve had. A wild finish against Everton, topped off with an incredible goal by wunderkind, Max Dowman. Then a very tidy win over Bayer Leverkusen to earn Arsenal a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals against Sporting CP.

But now all eyes on Sunday as the Gunners head to Wembley to face Manchester City in the League Cup Final. City were unceremoniously bounced out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and dropped points in their last Premier League match, but no one should be looking past them.

The last time the two sides met in a League Cup Final, City bested Arsenal, 3-0. But that was 2018, and this season’s Arsenal is a very different animal indeed. A lot of fans don’t rate this competition, but any chance at silverware cannot be overlooked and here’s hoping this is just the first of several trophies for Arsenal this season.

Matches vs City take on heightened significance, because Maggie’s owner, Mick is a die-hard City fan and other Man City supporters often turn up. Expect Mick to turn the banter up to 11, going as far as to display his City kit collection. We will counter this display by our overwhelming presence, banner and some Arsenal kits of our own.

Finally, a framed dollar bill hangs in the balance, which will be awarded to the winning side’s supporters. We’d rather you don’t bring that “friend” who supports City, or at least, keep them out of the Arsenal side of the pub.

Expect Maggie’s to be very crowded Sunday and get there early to ensure entry. You must be 21+ and they will be checking IDs. If you need an all-ages venue, we recommend the East Bay Gooners.

See you all at the pub!

COYG!

Best, Mark
