Tuesday’s last minute, smash and grab Champions League win at Sporting was just what the doctor ordered. The Arsenal universe seemed unsettled and some fans were slipping into panic mode.
Doubts were justified given how our League Cup and FA Cup runs ended. Tuesday’s grind-it-out affair in Portugal didn’t offer a lot of highlights, but Arsenal got a result against a formidable Sporting side.
There was a lot of blather about Arsenal getting an “easy” quarter-finals match-up, but this Sporting side hadn’t lost in their previous 17 matches at home. During their Champions League run-up, they beat Paris Saint-German, considered one of the tournament’s heavyweights.
Now back to the business of winning the league. Bournemouth arrive on the back of an 11-match unbeaten run, including 5 successive draws most recently. Some anecdotal data suggests Arsenal struggle with early kickoffs, but given the match is 4:30 am West Coast time, I certainly can’t blame them.
But it’s another must-win if Arsenal are to fend off City’s challenge and get their hands on the Premiership trophy. Time for the lads to take one more step towards becoming legends while Bay Area Gooners turning up at Maggie’s Saturday do the same.
This is our last 4:30 am match of the season (thankfully), so come be a legend!
COYG!
Best, Mark
