Fleetwood muck

Gooners,

Arsenal’s quadruple dream is over after the Gunners crashed out of the League Cup Tuesday, losing to League Two side, Fleetwood Town. At first the match appeared to be “Take a Youngster to Work Day” with Arteta giving starts to Marli Salmon, Max Dowman and Ceadach O’Neill.

But despite the presence of first team players, including Zubimendi, Mosquera, Hincapie, Gyokeres, and Havertz, Arsenal managed to look ordinary and ineffective. Fleetwood Town’s home supporters revived the old chestnut, “Boring, boring Arsenal” and who could argue with them.

Then there’s the matter of Max Dowman’s red card. Call it youthful indiscretion or a lack of experience but not sure his kick out was worthy of a red. Apparently, Arsenal didn’t either, but their appeal was denied. He miss 3 league matches and while he hasn’t featured recently, I’ll miss having him as an option.

In all candor, I’m not unhappy about having less matches to play so Arsenal can focus on the league and the Champions League. The whole thing was a bit embarrassing but hopefully there will be no hangover as we head to Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool presents a formidable opponent, having won 5 in a row in all competitions, including besting Brighton, something Arsenal failed to do a few weeks back.

Don’t forget, you can get your Bay Area Gooners Champions Swag (scarves, t-shirts, and hoodies) from me at the pub!

Still feels Maggie’s attendance has waned from last season, but hopefully a match of this magnitude brings you back to the pub. We definitely don’t want opposition fans making their presence felt at our home. See you there!

Best, Mark
