Bursting bubbles

Midweek Champions League match against Olympiakos, done and dusted. A bit labored at times, but the Greek side are no slouches and Arsenal eventually wore them down. Full highlights here. Last weekend’s dramatic late win against Newcastle was a joy to behold. I must have watched Big Gabi’s stoppage time goal, a dozen times orContinue reading “Bursting bubbles”

Strange but true

Did anyone have midfielder Mikel Merino coming off the bench to score not one but two winners, on their bingo card? The elation for Gooners at Maggie’s for the 4:30 am match, was equal parts relief and surprise. What a strange season for Arsenal. Some might say a trainwreck, given our preponderance of injuries. ButContinue reading “Strange but true”

Back to winning ways?

While we’re counting the things we are thankful for, it’s lovely to see Arsenal (hopefully) finding form again. The Gunners handily dispatched Nottingham Forest in league play and then put on a veritable masterclass, trouncing a really good Sporting CP side, 1-5, in the Champions League. We still need Liverpool to stumble to have anyContinue reading “Back to winning ways?”

Train kept a-rollin’

Bay Area Gooners had every right to feel conflicted this past weekend. Our local team fell short in their biggest game of the season, while Arsenal rolled over West Ham 6-nil. The match strayed into Harlem Globetrotters-Washington Generals territory and it seemed like any Arsenal player who touched the ball might get a goal. WatchingContinue reading “Train kept a-rollin’”

Big game tomorrow

To be honest, at this point in the season, they’re all big games. But with only 2 points separating Arsenal from top of the table Liverpool and Man City firing on all cylinders, the Gunners can ill afford to drop any points. But let’s take one last moment to revel in last weekend’s glorious win.Continue reading “Big game tomorrow”

In which we get hammered

Following a tough draw at Anfield, one could be forgiven for looking at our mid-week fixture and thinking Arsenal could get a result. And in those opening minutes, it seemed like we would do just that. We were stylish, crisp, tricky and yet ended the match with 30 shot attempts and nary a goal toContinue reading “In which we get hammered”

The hammer came down

Just like that, the hammer came down and our league cup run is over. You’ll hear Gooners rationalize it as freeing Arsenal up for more important things, but the truth is, it was an anemic performance all round. This was a chance for a number of squad players to bolster supporters already shaky faith inContinue reading “The hammer came down”

Hammer time

Any other year, any other season, we’d probably be thrilled with a draw at Anfield. But I feel a bit conflicted after last weekend’s stressful affair. Either Arsenal dropped points or they battled a fierce foe within the confines of their fortress and left with an admirable result. I still can’t really decide. Stop! HammerContinue reading “Hammer time”
